POLISH HERITAGE SOCIETY 2010 SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS


AQUINAS COLLEGE - $250 scholarship to Austin Bekins.

Austin is a senior at Kenowa Hills High School and aspires to be a secondary teacher.

Austin has been class treasurer for four years, student council treasurer for one year and is a youth group leader. He has won the DAR Good Citizen Award and is a church volunteer. His other extracurricular activities are football, basketball, track, golf, yearbook, broadcast journalism, honor society, Kenowa connectors, SADD, band, and prom committee.

In addition to his busy school schedule, Austin also works at Bouma Self-Storage, Inc.

GRAND VALLEY STATE UNIVERSITY - $250 scholarship to Madison Ball

Madison is a senior at Kenowa Hills High School, and is dually enrolled at Grand Rapids Community College. She plans to study wildlife biology. Her career goal is to educate the public about local environments and nature.

Madison is student council treasurer and is a member of the National Honor Society. She has received an academic letter for her excellent grades.

Madison volunteers during the summer at John Ball Zoo Society. She also often helps with food pantry preparation at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in downtown Grand Rapids. She also participates in the Pulaski Days Parade, and enjoys good Polish food.

GRAND RAPIDS COMMUNITY COLLEGE - $250 scholarship to Daniel Slaktoski

Daniel is currently attending Grand Rapids Community College with a major in pre-medicine. He hopes to become a doctor of internal medicine. His ultimate goal is to help find a cure for diabetes.

Daniel has participated in Science Olympiad, FIRST, and Forensics Club. He is also an altar server instructor.

Daniel is a volunteer in the Teen Summer Program at the Plainfield Library branch.
